There is really no one-size-fits-all approach to this problem. If used correctly, it is a very cost-effective conditioning helper. If used incorrectly, it will cause trouble to the body. It all depends on the specific situation.
A while ago, I helped a friend adjust her diet. She was diagnosed with a high risk of folic acid metabolism during her pregnancy preparation. The folic acid in ordinary dietary supplements was simply not enough to absorb. I took active folic acid every day as prescribed by the doctor. Afterwards, the pregnancy test went smoothly and the baby was born healthy. Do you think the nutrients are unreliable at this time? It certainly doesn’t make sense. But I have also seen an old man from a relative who was deceived by a health class into buying "natural vitamin tablets" worth thousands of dollars, which were said to be able to cure high blood pressure. He stopped the antihypertensive medicine without permission and took nutrients every day. Within half a month, he felt dizzy and was sent to the hospital. At this time, do you dare to say that eating any nutrients will be useful?
In fact, everyone is arguing and quarreling, and many times they put the blame on the nutrients themselves, but ignore the core issue-whether you really need to supplement, and whether the amount of supplement is appropriate.
To put it bluntly, nutrients are things that are already in our food. The high-quality protein in eggs, the vitamin C in oranges, and the iron in pork liver that you eat every day are all nutrients. If these things were useless, people would not be able to live long ago. It's just that when you can't eat enough from meals due to dietary restrictions or body absorption problems, additional supplements are just a patch to "fill the gap".
For example, if you eat takeout every day and can’t eat green vegetables twice a week, a proper supplement of multivitamins and dietary fiber will definitely be better than a long-term lack of it; for an elderly person who has just had surgery and can’t eat, drinking some hydrolyzed whey protein powder can indeed speed up wound healing; for people who are lactose intolerant and cannot drink milk, supplementing with calcium tablets and vitamin D every day can also reduce the risk of osteoporosis in old age. But if you can get together a fistful of staple food, a palm-sized piece of meat, and a handful of vegetables every time you eat, and there is no basic problem with your work and rest schedule, and you follow the trend and stuff several high-dose nutrients into your mouth, saying "prepare for health", then it will put a metabolic burden on the liver and kidneys. If you take too much of fat-soluble vitamins A, E, and K and they cannot be excreted, long-term overdose will really cause problems.
I usually take out the multivitamins in my pocket and take a pill when I have customers eating takeout for two or three days in a row. I usually don’t even think about this when I’m cooking at home. To put it bluntly, there is nothing that is absolutely reliable or unreliable. If you don’t treat it as a miracle medicine or a scourge, if it is missing, replenish it and eat according to the amount, you will naturally use it in the right place.
