The two are related to implementation support - first aid is the front-end core component of the emergency health system and is the key to effective immediately after the occurrence of sudden health risks. Whether its handling is timely and standardized directly determines the final effect of the entire emergency health intervention.
I encountered a real incident a while ago when I was doing emergency health education in an old community. Uncle Zhang on the third floor had a heart attack while cooking rice at home.
Nowadays, the industry actually has different views on the weight of the two. Many scholars who do research on the public health system always say, don’t overestimate the role of first aid. The essence of emergency health is a system engineering covering the whole cycle, from daily population risk screening, health science popularization, emergency supplies (such as AED) layout, including on-site treatment, in-hospital treatment, and follow-up rehabilitation follow-up. First aid is only one of the implementation links. If the preliminary preparation is not done well, there is not even basic first aid equipment, and ordinary people do not even know the basic treatment taboos. If something really happens, talking about first aid will be empty talk. However, those of us first aid trainers who have been working on the front line all year round often feel that no matter how complete the previous system is, if no one dares to get started or know how to operate it at the scene of the incident, a lot of golden rescue time will be wasted in vain while waiting for the ambulance to arrive. If the first aid link cannot be connected, the entire emergency health chain will be broken.
In fact, there is nothing wrong with both of these statements. If you compare emergency health to a dam that protects life, daily science popularization, material preparation, and system construction are the earth and stone piles for the dam, which determines the foundation strength of the entire defense line. And first aid is the anti-seepage panel that is the first to face the waves when the flood comes. If the panel is strong enough, the dike will not be washed away immediately. Conversely, if the foundation of the dike itself is not solid, no matter how thick the anti-seepage panel is, it will not be able to withstand long-term erosion.
To put it bluntly, for us ordinary people, we don’t need to study so many academic definitions to understand the relationship between the two. We usually learn two more practical first aid skills. If someone around us suddenly feels unwell, we dare to step forward and help as much as we can. If we don’t deal with it randomly and don’t waste time, we are actually contributing to the emergency health system of the entire society.
