cavernosal edema
Cavernous edema is caused by infection of the penis, because the head of the penis becomes very sensitive when stimulated by the outside world. At this time, the erection of the penis may malfunction, and swelling and pain may occur during urination. We need to check whether the cause of cavernous edema is inflammation or infection, and then treat it in time to avoid affecting male fertility.
1. What is corpus cavernosum?
The penis is mainly composed of three parallel spongy bodies, and these three cylinders are similar in structure. There are two corpus cavernosum in the penis, shaped like a cone with sharp ends. The two corpus cavernosum are arranged in parallel on both sides of the midline of the human body and are closely connected. Functionally, they are completely a unit. They form the basis of the penile shaft, are located on the back and sides of the penis, and take up most of the penis' volume. Except for the flat inner surfaces of each corpus cavernosum that are adjacent to each other, their cross-sectional shape is approximately circular. The two corpus cavernosum are separated from each other only at the root to form two corpus cavernosum feet. After they are separated, they first swell slightly, then gradually become thinner, and are respectively attached to the pubic bone, the periosteum of the inferior ischial branch and the perineal fascia on each side through a strong fibrous band.
2. The special significance of the corpus cavernosum of the penis
The glans penis has a special significance in sexual sensation. The glans penis has rich innervation and is very sensitive to external stimulation. The striated muscles covering the cavernous body in humans, namely the bulbocavernosus muscle and the ischiocavernosus muscle, have nothing to do with erection, but they all contract rhythmically during ejaculation to help eject semen out of the body. The pelvic striated muscles of many mammals play an important role in full erection of the penis.
3. Mechanism of corpus cavernosum of penis
The third cylinder of the penis is the unpaired urethral cavernous body (Corpuscavernosum, or cor Pusspongiosum), which is located in the urethral groove on the midline of the ventral surface of the penis, just below the two corpus cavernosum. It is named because the urethra runs through it. It is much smaller than the corpus cavernosum, and its location is the urethra surface of the penis.
