Sudden hematospermia can heal on its own in most cases, and may be related to factors such as frequent sexual intercourse, minor injuries to the reproductive tract, prostatitis, seminal vesiculitis, or urinary tract stones.
1. Frequent sex life:
Too frequent sexual intercourse may lead to congestion of the reproductive organs and slight rupture of capillaries, causing hematospermia. Reduce the frequency of sexual life and avoid excessive stimulation. Symptoms will usually resolve on their own within 1-2 weeks. It is recommended to suspend sexual intercourse during this period and observe whether it is accompanied by pain or continued bleeding.
2. Reproductive tract injury:
Mucosal damage to the urethra, vas deferens and other parts caused by sexual behavior or trauma is a common cause. Minor injuries do not require special treatment. Keep the area clean and avoid squeezing or strenuous exercise. Most will recover within 3-5 days. If the bleeding is severe or lasts for more than a week, you need to seek medical attention.
3. Prostatitis:
Chronic prostatitis may cause blood in the semen, usually accompanied by frequent urination and perineal swelling and pain. Mild inflammation can be improved by taking warm sitz baths and drinking more water. If recurrence occurs, prostate-specific antigen needs to be checked to rule out other pathologies.
4. Seminal vesiculitis:
When the seminal vesicles are inflamed, capillary fragility increases, and intermittent hematospermia may occur. Antibiotic treatment is required in the acute stage, and it is recommended to avoid prolonged sitting and spicy food in the chronic stage. Seminal vesiculitis is easy to relapse, and if hematospermia persists for more than 2 times, an ultrasound examination should be performed.
3. Urinary system stones:
When ureteral or bladder stones move, they may scratch the mucous membrane and mix blood with semen. Small stones can be expedited by drinking more water and jumping. If waist cramps or difficulty urinating occur, imaging examinations are required to confirm the location of the stones.
After hematospermia occurs, it is recommended to suspend sexual intercourse for 1-2 weeks, wash the vulva with warm water every day, and choose loose cotton underwear to reduce friction. Avoid alcohol, chili peppers and other irritating foods in your diet, and consume more fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin C, such as kiwi and broccoli, to enhance blood vessel elasticity. Moderate aerobic exercise such as brisk walking and swimming can improve pelvic blood circulation. If hematospermia recurs more than three times and is accompanied by fever or painful ejaculation, it is necessary to promptly check for possible diseases such as tumors and tuberculosis. Men over 40 years old who experience hematospermia for the first time are recommended to undergo prostate ultrasound and tumor marker screening.
