There is currently no clear clinical research evidence to prove that standard and correct use of fascia guns for prenatal care will damage the fetal brain. However, the safety margin of using fascial guns during pregnancy is difficult to grasp, and it is generally not recommended for pregnant women to purchase and use them in clinical practice.
I have been in the obstetrics department for almost three years, and I have met dozens of pregnant mothers asking this question. The one who impressed me the most was a primary school teacher who was 30 weeks pregnant. Her shoulders and neck were so stiff that she could hardly lift her head because she had been working at her desk for a long time preparing for lessons. She secretly used my husband's fascial gun to hit her shoulders at home. I turned around and saw a short video saying that the vibration would shake the baby's brain. I was so scared that I couldn't sleep all night. I came to the hospital for a color ultrasound early the next morning to confirm that the fetal heart rate and fetal movements were normal, and I asked the nurse for half an hour. The chief physician who treated her at the time explained to her that if the controllable vibration of a regular fascia gun was only hit at locations far away from the uterus such as the shoulders, neck, and outer thighs, it would have been almost cushioned by muscles, fat, and amniotic fluid in the uterus when it was transmitted to the abdominal cavity. The intensity of the vibration was not as strong as the bumps the fetus felt when she went for a walk every day, and it could not touch the fetus' brain at all.
But this does not mean that using a fascia gun during pregnancy is completely okay. Doctors in the rehabilitation department and obstetrics department are still divided on this matter. The doctors who hold opposing views are mainly afraid that ordinary people without professional knowledge will easily fall into the trap. Think about it, ordinary pregnant mothers can’t tell which positions can and cannot be injected. If they have backache, they will blindly focus on the lumbosacral area. Some people even find it tiring to rub their belly with their hands and want to use a fascia gun to relax the abdomen. The close-range vibration directly stimulates the uterus and can easily induce frequent uterine contractions. It may lead to threatened abortion in the early pregnancy, and even risks of premature birth in the third trimester. I have seen cases from other places before. A pregnant mother who was 25 weeks pregnant used a fascial gun to relieve the pain in her lower back. After the injection, she had stomachache for a long time and went to the hospital to ensure the fetus. Although nothing serious happened in the end, the whole family was frightened.
Talking about the impact on the fetal brain that everyone is most concerned about, there has indeed been no public case of fetal brain damage caused by the correct use of the fascial gun, but no study dares to say that it is 100% risk-free. After all, the ethics are here, and no one will conduct controlled experiments on pregnant women and fetuses. To put it bluntly, this is just like whether you should eat iced tea and drink milk tea during pregnancy. It is not absolutely forbidden per se, but if you are not sure about your own constitution and cannot figure out the operating boundaries, there is really no need to take this risk. If the muscle soreness is really severe, it is also very useful to find a prenatal rehabilitation practitioner in a regular hospital to do relaxation techniques, instead of trying blindly at home with a fascial gun.
